Feride

The statement this particular saree makes is in the opulent Zardosi border edged with gold tassels and the wooden beads at the end of the pallu.

Indian earthy tones showcasing the entire epic of ‘Samudra Manthan’ in the form of a sketch are the highlight of this beautiful piece. The fall and the grace of the silk is rich and fluid.

About the Art
Samudra Manthan

By Dr. Jatinder Singh Bhogal

Legend has it that the Devas (Gods) and the Asuras (Demons) collaborated in a rare joint endeavor to churn the ocean and reap all the treasures that it held. The churning yielded Amrut (nectar of eternal life) but it also yielded the most deadly poison. The Devas kept the Amrut and the only one who could handle the poison was Lord Shiva. He drank the poison and his throat turned blue as a result, earning him the name “Neelkanth”. This painting by Dr. Jatinder Singh Bhogal so beautifully weaves the story of Samudra Manthan and all the treasures that were reaped from it. The ‘Shankha’; ‘Parijaat’ the divine flowering tree; the Moon, they all feature on this saree.
